theatrical

the story:

Plaza desktop publishing – typesetting, graphic design, desktop publishing, and website designs by Doug Barron, since 1989, specializes in work for Off & Off-Off Broadway Theatres, Dance Companies and the people who work there. Doug Barron and Plaza is a recipient of a 1996 ART/NY Local Hero Award (see about us) for his work with the theatre.

Located in the heart of the theatre district, midtown at Manhattan Plaza. This is possible because Doug is also a working actor (see Doug Barron on links page). It is this unique perspective that has given Plaza a special understanding to the needs & budgets of the New York theatrical community.

Soul of the American Actor:

Many of you may have run across Ronald Rand's newspaper The Soul of the American Actor, which I have done the design & layout for since its inception, I also create many of the ads it contains. The paper has 4 issues yearly. We are soon to begin our 5th year of publication in print and its 2nd year on-line.

custom designed theatrical database:

custom designed theatrical database: for handling subscriber & fundraising lists using Microsoft Access. This was instigated by Primary Stages. They then recommended the database to other theatres and it is now in use by The Foundry Theatre, The Women's Project, The Ensemble Studio Theatre, Horton-by-the-Stream and was in use by the WPA.

Although I do not consider myself a programmer in any way, I believe the success of the database is because I understand the needs, limitations and the ever changing world of theatre companies.

What this database is used for is keeping track of all the lists of names theatres gather. Subscribers, Supporters, VIP's, Press, Government Organizations, Fundraising Organizations, Credit Card purchases, etc. The Plaza theatrical database does require some training, which I supply, but is vary flexible, not tied to Plaza, and far more affordable then the high end programs out there. You will be able if you choose to make design/program changes yourself or have me. If you would like to hear more about this database feel free to call any of the above mentioned companies and/or give me a call and I will be happy to discuss it in more depth.
